PAOK presented their new coach, Pavlos Dermitzakis on Friday, one day after the dismissal of Italian manager Mario Beretta.
Dermitzakis has left Panthrakikos, who a few months ago were relegated from the Super League, to join PAOK in what is the biggest step in his career to date.
“I want PAOK to play the football that we like, for the fans to enjoy it, too. If we achieve that then the results will also come our way,” said Dermitzakis in his first statements as PAOK coach.
He will have to gear the team up in time for the first leg of the Champions League qualifiers with Ajax at Amsterdam on July 28.
PAOK president Thodoris Zagorakis and Dermitzakis were teammates at the start of their careers at Kavala.
The club’s vice president Zisis Vryzas took the responsibility for the hiring of Beretta suggesting it was his “own fault”. Beretta only managed to stay at PAOK for about a month, the shorter spell ever for anyone at this post.
Meanwhile PAOK announced on Saturday they have already sold out their 19,203 season tickets.
As for Panthrakikos, the Komotini club announced they have replaced Dermitzakis with former Doxa Dramas manager Costas Vasilakakis.
