Previous Page > Prokom delay Olympiakos's qualification

Olympiakos will have to try again on Thursday to secure their ticket for the Euroleague Final-Four as on Tuesday they suffered a rather unexpected 81-78 loss at Prokom in Poland.
The Reds went to Gdynia with a 2-0 advantage over the Polish champions and were aiming at a third win that would have secured them qualification from the best-of-five quarterfinals.
However Prokom dominated Game 3 of the series having the lead throughout and never allowing Olympiakos to display their virtues, leading by as many as 12 points in the first half.
The Greeks tried to save the game in the end reducing the deficit to two points, but the hosts were not to be denied on the night, to make the score 2-1 overall.
“It was a game of two halves. In the first 20 minutes my team committed some really stupid errors and we did not fight for the ball. Prokom managed to build an advantage then,” said Olympiakos coach Panayiotis Giannakis.
“In the second half we had more concentration and had the chance to win, but Prokom took victory and in the next game we need to pick up from where we left it in the second half,” the Greek coach added, noting that “we did not play as a team”.
With Game 4 scheduled for Thursday, Olympiakos have very little time to recover, but know that if the worst comes to the worst they always have Game 5 at home next week to fall back on.
