Thursday, June 18, 2009 : Deal reached with Mellberg as well

Matt Derbyshire will wear red for another four yearsOlympiakos announced on Thursday they reached an agreement with Blackburn Rovers for the transfer of Matt Derbyshire.

In a statement uploaded on the Greek champions' website the club confirmed the deal while refraining from making any reference to the amount to be paid for the former England Under-21 international.

Reports in the Greek media, though, suggest that the deal was sealed at about 3 million euros, with an additional 600,000 to be paid of Olympiakos win the league and reach the Champions League group stage.

The contract that Derbyshire is about to sign is likely to last for four years and will have a buy-out clause of 7 million euros, reports stated.

However, he will not be among the Olympiakos players to meet in Piraeus on Friday for the first training session of the new season as he is expected to come to Greece the following week.

Derbyshire spent the last six months at Olympiakos on loan from Rovers and helped the Reds win the domestic double, scoring twice in the Greek Cup final.

Mellberg, too

Former Aston Villa defender Olof Mellberg is likely to follow Derbyshire as Olympiakos have reportedly reached an agreement with his club, Juventus to sign the Swedish international.

Mellberg will reportedly come to Greece to sign a three-year contract.

Panathinaikos had also shown an interest in the player with the Italian press carrying reports during the week that Mellberg and Juventus had struck a deal with the Greens.

Yet Olympiakos has apparently moved swiftly to secure the services of the 31-year-old player at a price of just 2.5 million euros, as well as 2 million euros per year for the player.

Mellberg is reportedly planning on arriving in Greece on Monday.
