Reigning champions Athens will face Attica Springboks in the final of the Greek club championship after both sides won their respective semi-finals at the weekend.
At a water-logged Glyka Nera on Saturday, Attica Springboks staged an excellent second half, rallying from a 5-0 half-time lead to beat Thessaloniki Lions 27-0.
Attica Springboks claim place in the final
Greece international fly-half Alexandros Gounaris provided the spark with three tries, the others coming from Korean centre Jineuk Yi and veteran French wing Laurent Agostini.
The second semi-final, which saw Athens beat Iraklis 31-3, provided an ugly advertisement for the Greek game as referee George Psaromatis produced three red cards and four yellows as the match descended into a cynical exchange of kicks, punches and cheap shots.
Athens on course for fourth championship title
Athens scrum-half Vassilis Katsakos and his opposite number Iasonas Deligiannidis were both sent off midway through the second half after sparking a mass brawl that could easily have sent at least two more reds.
At the end of the game, Iraklis front ranker Giannis Vassiliadis was also dismissed after launching an extravagant kick at Athens prop Costas Tsampaos who was prostrate on the ground at the time.
Athens, who are looking for their fourth successive title, collected three yellow cards inside the first 25 minutes while Iraklis also picked one up for consistent infringing.
It made for a fitful game. Athens led 5-3 at half-time but in between the nonsense racked up five tries – the best coming from Georgian wing Oboladze Miriani after an excellent break from Katsakos.
The final will be played at Glyka Nera on March 28, kick-off 3pm.
