Thursday, February 05, 2009 : Federation impatient of Evosmos "no-shows"
Greek Rugby FederationMecedones Evosmos are facing expulsion from the domestic rugby championship after failing to show up for their round 5 match against Attica Springboks on Sunday.

No final ruling has been made on the issue but www.sportingreece.com understands that patience within the Hellenic Rugby Federation is wearing thin with the northern side who have now failed to produce a team for three of their five matches.

They have already been docked three points for each of the first two games where they no-showed – a total of six – and the same punishment as well as expulsion from the championship could be in order this time around.

The federation also announced that Athens Spartans would be docked six points for missing two games while Rhodes lose three points after failing to make the trip to face champions Athens in round 2.

Athens continue to dominate the championship as they reeled off their fourth successive win, this time a 55-7 pummelling of Thessaloniki Lions at the Zirionio Stadium.

Vassilis Katsakos led the way with two tries and five conversions for a personal tally of 20 points. There were two tries each also for Greece internationals Georgos Tsatsaronis and Philip Sotiriadis.

In the other game played, Iraklis beat Athens Spartans 15-12 in a tight battle at Agios Andreas.

Iraklis scored three tries in the first half – two of them from Patrick Sawers – to open up a 15-7 lead at the break. Spartans came back with an unconverted try but Iraklis hung on for the win.
