AEK announced that Giorgos Kintis is the new president of the football club.
The name of the 40-year-old economist was agreed on during Monday's board meeting and was the club's first choice after main stake holder Nikos Notias turned down the offer to take over.
Notias becomes instead one of the three vice-presidents, along with existing ones Takis Kanellopoulos and Nikos Koulis.
Kintis is one of the closest friends and associates of former president Demis Nikolaidis in the early days of the latter's administration.
He was one of the people who supported the idea for the arrangement of AEK's debts in 2003-2004; he also owns a 0.12 percent stake at the club.
Abuse for Basinas
Greece international midfielder Angelos Basinas was at the receiving end of abuse and jeering by his own club's fans after missing a penalty in injury time at Livadia on Sunday during AEK's goalless draw with Levadiakos.
The player admitted he did not feel ready to take the responsibility to take the penalty, but did so after the demand of his coach, Dusan Bajevic. A minute earlier his teammate Gustavo Manduca had also missed from the spot, his kick beaten way by the Levadiakos keeper before the referee ordered the penalty to be retaken.
"It was the first time in my life that I have told a player to take a penalty and I will not do it again, " said Bajevic.
