Tuesday, November 11, 2008 : Super League cup need extra time to win 1-2

Ismael BlancoAEK needed extra time at B' Ethniki side Ilisiakos to advance to the next round of the Greek cup on Tuesday, winning 1-2 thanks to a Pantelis Kaffes goal.

The Athens giants proved once again a shadow of their collective former selves and struggled to beat the second-division's table propellers at Egaleo, the new home of Ilisiakos.

After a barren 90 minutes - including an Edinho header that hit the Ilisiakos post - the game went to extra time, in which last season's top scorer in the Super League, Ismael Blanco put AEK ahead at the 94th minute.

However the job was not complete for AEK yet, as the home club who had nothing to lose managed to equalise with Dimitris Tsitsomitsos five minutes later.

Eventually, it took a Pantelis Kaffes goal at the start of the second half of extra time after a Nacho Scocco pass for AEK to make the last 16 of the competition.

AEK joined PAOK, Panthrakikos, Olympiakos, Larissa, Asteras Tripolis and Panionios in the last 16.

Another eight ties are to be played on Wednesday, including last year's semifinal pair of Atromitos against Aris and the visit of Panathinaikos to Kavala.

Finally, Kastoria host Iraklis on Thursday.
