The Darko Destroyer struck again on Sunday, his 63rd minute goal the catalyst for Olympiakos' 2-0 win over AEK Athens.
Diogo got the second goal for Olympiakos as they moved two points clear at the top of the table.
The reigning champions remain unbeaten with 13 points after five rounds, two more than PAOK who were held to a goalless draw by Ergotelis on Saturday.
Larissa and Xanthi share third spot with ten points while Panathinaikos, who have a game in hand, are a point further back after beating Levadiakos 2-0.
The game at the Karaiskakis was not for the feint-hearted as a Olympiakos and AEK produced a series of shuddering tackles, many of which bordered on the illegal, littered the first half.
Former Spain international Juanfran was the only dismissal of the night - getting his marching orders in the 79th minute after a second yellow card - but it could have been a couple more.
The best scoring chance fell to Vassilis Torosidis after 25 minutes but his close range header was denied by AEK goalkeeper Sebastian Saha who reacted magnificently to tip the ball just over the bar. Torosidis looked more bemused than disappointed.
The breakthrough came in the 63rd minute when the old warhorse Predrag Djordjevic, brought on a s second half replacement for the ineffective Sebastien Leto, threaded a fine crossfield pass into the path of Kovacevic.
The Serb took a couple of touches to line up the shot and fired it past the oncoming Saha from just outside the penalty area.
Three minutes later Didier Domi supplied another telling pass from the left for Diogo who got his toe to the ball to nudge it into the net.
Panathinaikos had a relatively comfortable night scoring both goals in their 2-0 win over Levadiakos in the first half.
Croatian Under-21 international Ante Rukavina got the first after 25 minutes, following good work down the left by Andreas Ivanschitz. Then, on the stroke of half-time, Dimitris Salpigidis latched on to a poor backpass to fire in his first goal of the season.
Xanthi will be glad to have returned home with a point from the Peloponnese. In a tight game, Asteras Tripolis midfileder Filomeno missed from the penalty spot as the game ended in a goalless draw.
Panthrakikos collected their first win in the Super League, Frenchman Ludovic Clement scoring the only goal in their 1-0 win over Panionios who had Ivica Majstorovic sent off.
Thrasyvoulos Filis, meanwhile, conceded a late goal for the second week running to lose 1-0 to Panserraikos.
Last week they conceded in the fourth minute of added time at the end of the game. This week Sembegou Bangoura got the only goal of the game in 88th minute which means Thrasyvoulos remain rooted to the bottom of the table, still looking for their first point and their first goal.
