WHAT IS WWW.SPORTINGREECE.COM?
www.sportingreece.com is unique among sports websites as it is the only site to report on all sport in Greece and on sports that may concern Greece – in English.

WHAT IS SO SPECIAL ABOUT THAT?

Two things. First, www.sportingreece.com is an open door for the many foreign sports lovers who come to live in Greece but whose knowledge of the language is not good enough for them to read the websites that are in Greek. At the last census there were approximately 1.2 million non-Greeks living in Greece of whom an estimated 600,000 have English as either their first or second language. Second, www.sportingreece.com is a way for diaspora Greeks, of first, second, third generation who may not speak or read Greek to keep in touch with the sports they love in the country they love. At the last guestimate this would account for approximately 275 million people across the globe.

AND THEY ARE ALL GOING TO READ YOUR SITE?

Obviously not everyone is interested in sport but even if it is a fraction of that amount, say one per cent, then we are still looking at 2.75 mililon diaspora Greeks who want to know how their team is getting on. That is a big potential readership in anyone’s language.

THAT IS A LOAD OF RUBBISH ISN’T IT? WHERE ARE ALL THESE GREEKS?

We believe that the principal interest for www.sportingreece.com will come from the large diaspora countries such as the United States, Canada, Australia, South Africa and the United Kingdom. This is why we are paying special attention to sports such as baseball, rugby and cricket.

BASEBALL, RUGBY AND CRICKET IN GREECE?

Absolutely. And whether you speak Greek or not, www.sportingreece.com is currently the only website that deals with each of these sports in Greece. So you will find news and features on how the local scene is developing and how the national teams are progressing.

SO WHAT HAPPENED TO FOOTBALL AND BASKETBALL?
Oh we will be covering those as well. As Greece are the current European champions in both sports, there is major interest in how they will develop both on a national and a club level. www.sportingreece.com will bring you the latest news, gossip and results in both football and basketball. More specifically, we will be covering football’s Super League and B Ethniki division from the start of the 2007-08 season as well as the national team as it bids to retain the European title it won in Portugal in 2004. As for basketball, we will be keeping an eye on the top flight at club level as well as Euroleague and, of course the progress of the national team in the 2007 European championships.

SO ARE YOU COVERING ANY OTHER SPORTS?
Of course. www.sportingreece.com will also be bringing you up to date with the world of athletics, volleyball, swimming, water polo, tennis. And any other sports where Greece is involved.

AND WHAT IF I DON’T AGREE WITH YOU…

Well, the public will have the right to respond to articles posted on the site. And we will be running forums on all aspects of sport in Greece so you can always have your say there.

www.sportingreece.com is part of the news and publishing company Archon Media which was set up in 2007.

AND WHO IS ARCHON MEDIA?

Archon Media is owned and run by two experienced journalists called Barney Spender and Nick Malkoutzis. You can find out more about them on the biogs page.

SO IT IS JUST THE TWO OF YOU?

No. Obviously, we need a good team of hacks dotted around the country with specialist knowledge and we are currently building this up. We are also looking at a number of top journalists and current sportsmen to write regular columns.
